Hong Kong has just unveiled its newly expanded cherry blossom garden located near the Hong Kong International Airport, offering both residents and visitors a picturesque pink retreat adorned with over 80 cherry trees.
Situated along Chek Lap Kok South Road, near the base of Scenic Hill on Lantau Island and viewable from Ngong Ping 360 gondolas, this large garden provides a serene escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.
A Blossoming Attraction
The cherry blossom garden, initially established as a modest landscape enhancement project, has undergone significant expansion to become Hong Kong’s premier destination for cherry blossom enthusiasts–especially for those who are unable to travel to top Asian sakura destinations like Japan and South Korea this spring.
The garden now boasts a waterfront promenade lined with additional cherry trees, creating a scenic pathway that offers breathtaking views of Tung Chung Bay. Visitors can relax on lounge chairs or enjoy picnics with family and friends on the newly added grassy areas, enhancing the overall experience.
If you’re wondering whether the cherry blossoms here are real, you can rest assured that they are!
The garden features cherry blossom varieties specifically selected to thrive in Hong Kong’s climate, ensuring a vibrant and resilient display each spring. The blooming period typically occurs between February and March, with each tree’s blossoms lasting approximately 7 to 14 days, depending on weather conditions.
Visitor Experience
Beyond the natural beauty of the cherry blossoms, the garden offers several amenities to enhance visitor comfort and engagement.
Informational boards are strategically placed throughout the area, providing insights into the different cherry blossom species and the history of the garden. Designated photo spots allow guests to capture memorable moments against the backdrop of blooming sakura, without disturbing the delicate blooms on the trees. The addition of rest areas and toilet facilities also ensure a convenient and enjoyable visit for all.
